OXYGEN LITERARY Magazine Review:Oxygen is an eclectic literary magazine first published in 1991.
We seek original fiction (stories, sketches, parts of novels), poems, and translations, with occasional essays and reviews, as well as black and white drawings.
We publish in perfect bound 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inch journal format, with 60 lb. vellum paper and a laminated cover. We are not part of academia or the ranting, rather unschooled coffee house scene, but we do take writing from any source when it is lively, well done, to the point, poetic, inspiring, deep in feeling, and sharp in its argument.
These are not the only qualities we seek, though "very well done" is the most important of them.
We are not interested in self conscious theorizing about the act of writing while writing a poem or story. We are a little magazine and prize our independence from institutional constraints and the apparently bland standards of most grant makers.
We like to think our standards of taste and perception make us a "little better" magazine, and we have been praised by National Book Award winners and the unknown man in the street.
